Lately, I have been watching some episodes of PBS series called The Art Assignment. One assignment was to " Create something that makes you feel uncomfortable, out of a material or group of materials." This past March I was in a van with fellow artists traveling to the Monarch reserve in Mexico. I had put a teaspoon of chia seed in my water bottle because they are just plain healthy and the bottle was comfortably situated in the crotch of my lovely pink jeans. I can not remember the exact circumstance that created the change from comfort to embarrassing art moment but the bottle mysteriously spilled into my lap. The well watered gelatinous seeds immediately did what they are so well known for, Attaching to a medium
in any form, making removal an impossibility. What to do ????? Well make art of course. The jeans later became the inspiration for CHIA SEED BRA
used in FUTURE WORLD photo shoot by Scott Umstattd. With added inspiration of Grass hair piece held in place by copper head messager. So my advice to future artists always use embarrassing moments of discomfort for art inspiration. and never underestimate the power of chia seeds.
